The Verzenay mill is an emblematic site of the Champagne region. Half destroyed by a shell in 1914, it served as a military observation post during the First World War. It was restored in 1949 at the instigation of Mr Rémy, the director of the Heidsieck vineyard, who owned the mill at the time. Carpentry, joinery, and painting work was undertaken and the four wings were rebuilt and fixed. Classified as a historical monument, the mill currently belongs to the G.H. Mumm champagne house and is not open to the public.
