'Pati' in the waters of Niau lagoon

The 'pati' or Chanos chanos abound in the shallow waters of Niau lagoon. They are spindle shaped fish with silver flanks and darker gray green backs which can measure up to 5.9ft (1.80m) in length. Feeding mainly on algae, they are devoid of teeth. The adults live in small and large schools near the coasts or around the islands.
