To feed, the pink flamingo stirs up the bottom of brackish water with its feet and plunges its head into the mud in suspension. Thanks to its unique beak equipped with combs, it filters the salt of the water and captures crustaceans and algae. The famous coloration of the beautiful wading bird’s plumage comes from its diet containing carotenoid pigments, including shrimp Artemia salina.
