Buffaloes do not have a well-developed heat regulation system and must stay close to water and mud in which they cool off. They usually leave the edge of the water as soon as they finish drinking, to avoid any confrontation with predators. When the herd is not disturbed, it remains around the water to graze, ruminate, rest and return to drink.
