Partially translucent 'glass frog'
4
0
The 'glass frogs' of Central America and the Amazon belong to a family of more than 10 genera and around 150 species. These frogs, green on their dorsal part, have a translucent chest and abdomen hence their nickname. Their lungs, intestines, eggs, and even their heartbeat can be seen through their skin. According to the researchers, this transparency would serve to avoid the harmful effects of the sun's rays on their internal organs covered with iridophore cells that reflect light or it would improve their ability to camouflage and mimicry against predators.
