Part of a Napoleonic defense system
0
0
South of the peninsula of Saint-Tropez, Cap Camarat holds the stone remains of a Napoleonic battery. It testifies to the coastal defense system implemented to counter possible maritime attacks at the time of the blockade of 1804. While France was subject to a blockade by a coalition of European countries, Napoleon organized a coastal defense line to protect the country from dangers coming from the sea by installing batteries all along the coasts. That of the coastal path of Cap Camarat was armed with three pieces of eighteen on a lookout and completed with a vaulted powder magazine protected from the sea by rocks.
