In Alsace, respect for nature is rooted in tradition. From the early 1970s, Alsatian producers turned to organic farming. Today the new generation picks up the torch and allows the region to position itself among the greenest European vineyards with 51 classified Grands Crus. The Alsatian vineyard stretches over 105 mi (170 km) between the Vosges mountains and the Rhine plain that crosses the two departments of the region.
