Lavender, Provençal par excellence, was among the first perfume plants used in Grasse in the 16th century, first in tannery and then in perfumery. It grew with other local products such as myrtle and lentiscus pistachio but also wild orange - from the Italian Riviera - or Vachellia farnesiana imported from Africa. The conservatory part of the gardens of the Musée International de la Parfumerie in Mouans-Sartoux near Grasse reproduces the fields of flowers - here lavender - as they were cultivated in the golden age of the perfume plant industry.
