A Regional Nature Park - like the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park here - is an inhabited rural territory to which the 'Regional Nature Park' label is awarded by the State for a renewable period of fifteen years. Recognized at the national level for its heritage and landscape values, it results from the voluntary commitment of the various administrative bodies to orient their actions within the framework of a common sustainable development project called the 'Park Charter'. Unlike a National Park, it is not an exceptional monument of nature.
