During the breeding season, the male peacock deploys 100 to 150 tail feathers to seduce the females who are particularly sensitive to their dark blue iridescent ocelli encircled by green. He then vibrates his feathers to make the ocelli look like motionless shining eyes on a moving background. The iridescence of the ocelli and the duration of the vibrations seem to be the two major seduction criteria for the females.
