This Polynesian is carrying pandanus leaves notably used to make roofs called 'rauoro'. Soaked in seawater, dried and assembled into panels, the pandanus leaves - whose longevity is superior to those of coconut palms (niau) - protect the inhabitants from the heat and resist cyclones. In harmony with the environment, they are also used to cover the bungalows of hotel complexes.
