Pandanus leaves drying

Among the nine species of pandanus present in Polynesia, the pandanus Tectorius species combines the two varieties used in crafts. The Leavis variety locally called 'Paeore' has long, compact leaves devoid of thorns, fruits and flowers. Cultivated, it is used for vegetable braiding. The Tectorius variety is a wild tree with thorny leaves. Called 'fara', it is used to make green roofs for Tahitian houses (fare). In both cases, after harvesting, the leaves should be given time to dry.
