Il existe environ 70 espèces de Marguerite d’Afrique.
C’est une plante herbacée de la famille des Astéracées, caractérisée par une fleur en capitule d’environ 7 à 8 centimètres de diamètre, qui fleurit de la fin de l’hiver jusqu’au printemps. La fleur s’ouvre avec le soleil et se ferme la nuit. Son feuillage succulent est persistant.
