The Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle overlooks the whole Alsace plain between the Vosges mountains and the Black Forest. From its high ramparts, it could monitor the commercial road of silver and salt that winded at the foot of the village of Orschwiller. It already existed in Celtic and Roman times, as attested by a landmark that still stands at the exit of the locality. Nowadays, no threat weighs upon the Wine Route that crosses Alsace.
