Between Reims and Epernay, the small town of Aÿ-Champagne sits in the middle of the vineyards. Classified as a Historical Monument in 1942, its Gothic church of Saint-Brice dates from the 15th century. As proof, two inscriptions engraved in the staircase leading to the gallery of the portal: 1441 and 1454. A stone tower with a spire was erected around 1550, but a fire destroyed the vaults. The building was then reinforced by four enormous buttresses which almost reached the cornice. The main door is a triple ribbed doorway, the central one of which relates the life of Brice of Tours. It is enhanced by a frieze that combines vines and fabulous animals.
