Toponymic origin of Roussillon

0
The name of the village of Roussillon in the Vaucluse department would have been formed from the Latin name of an individual - Ruscilius, Roscilius, or Rusticelius - to which was added the suffix -one. During Antiquity, it originally designated a Gallo-Roman estate that bore the name of its founder. This name could also be derived from the old French rossel that meant reed. Roussillon is written Rossilhon or Roussihoun in Provençal dialect.
