Original defense mechanism of Acacias trees

0
To defend themselves from excessive predation, acacias have developed a warning system that they implement when giraffes, essentially, attack their shoots. They can produce an equivalent of a pheromone to nearby acacias, dispersed by wind, to warn them. These trees get the information thanks to sensors on their leaves, increasing their tannin content. This substance, toxic in excessive amounts, forces the animal to fetch its food farther.
