L'orchis pourpre est une plante de la famille des Orchidacées. Au sommet d'une longue tige, elle porte de nombreuses fleurs pourpres à violacées dont le labelle (pétale médian) est clair ponctué de pourpre et le casque de la fleur rouge-brun. Sa floraison a lieu de mars à juin. Elle pousse sur les pelouses calcaires ensoleillées.
