Openland in Haleakala National Park
6
0
Haleakala is an active but not currently massive shield volcano that rises 10,023 feet above seal level. At this altitude views of Maui are incredible. When the skies are clear, you can see three other Hawaiian islands from Haleakala's lookouts : Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii. Haleakala National Park has more endangered species than any other park in the National Park Service. Two species are emblematics : the Nene (Hawaiian goose) Hawaii's state bird and Ahinahina (Haleakala silversword).
