The ochre quarries of Roussillon, like the neighboring ones of Rustrel, were exploited in the open. Ochre processing factories were located in the nearby village and employed most of the local population. The old Mathieu family's ocher factory, for example, reached its peak between 1921 and 1963 and produced annually around a thousand tons of ocher sold all over the world.
