Water, temperature, and light are determining factors for the adequate growth of rice in Camargue. Sown in mid-April, the rice needs a minimum temperature of 53.6°F (12°C) for its emergence and of 68°F (20°C) for its flowering taking place in summer. The climate of Camargue, therefore, allows only one crop per year. The harvesting by combine harvesters adapted to wet soils begins in mid-September.
