Clay being one of the oldest materials used by man, the production of ceramics in Provence dates back to the Neolithic era and to Antiquity. Kneaded with water, the clay made elastic was easily molded and shaped. After cooking, it gave resistant and impermeable objects intended for construction (bricks, tiles, etc.), for the preservation of food (amphorae), or even for use at the table (plates, cups, bowls, etc.).
