The town of Le Mont-Dore nestles at an altitude of 1,050 metres, in the upper valley of the Dordogne, where the river springs. A spa resort in the summer, Le Mont-Dore is a family winter sports resort. Nicknamed the “little Chamonix”, in 1936 it was one of the first winter sports resorts to have a cable car, built at the foot of the Puy de Sancy, at an altitude of 1,300 metres (photo). Le Mont-Dore has been awarded the “Famille Plus Montagne” label. It offers only 6% black runs, but there is a lift link to the Super-Besse ski area on the south-eastern slope, via the Puy Ferrand.
