The Fort de Brégançon, in the Var department, became in 1968 one of the residences made available to the presidency of the French Republic, in particular as a holiday resort. The French State has several other accommodations intended for the President of the Republic, the members of the government, or the foreign dignitaries passing through France. The most notorious is the Élysée Palace, the official residence and seat of the head of state, located in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. Official guests are also housed in the Marigny Hotel, near the Élysée, the Alma Palace, on the eponymous quay in the capital, and the Lanterne Pavillon, a Versailles hunting lodge.
