The Way of St. James in Alsace links Wissembourg (Bas-Rhin) to Belfort (Territoire de Belfort), 168 miles (270 km) of paths on a north-south axis. This section was the missing link between the German paths and eastern France. The Club Vosgien marked out the entire route and inaugurated it on 25 July 2003 (St James’ Day). Twelve legs of about 15.5 miles (25 km) make up the route, including a stopover in Orschwiller, at the foot of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Pilgrims are given a booklet (the Credential), which is free for members of the Association des Amis de Saint-Jacques en Alsace (Association of the Friends of St James in Alsace).
