On the land of the Tautavel Man

The Caune de l'Arago extends in Tautavel in the Corbières massif. The cavity, which must have been originally more than 393 feet (120 m) in length, was completely filled with sediments in the Quaternary era (the most recent geological era in which humans appeared). Located about 262 feet (80 m) above the Tautavel valley, it constituted an ideal observation post, populated by prehistoric hunters best known as Tautavel Man. Belonging to a later period, the capitelles, these shelters built in dry stone, dot the Ardèche landscape.
