On-board net-mending

Net-mending consists of the mending and repair of damaged fishing nets. It is often practiced aboard the fishing boats by the fishermen themselves or their wives. Artisanal fishermen must, indeed, be able to solve as quickly as possible and at least rudely the urgent repair problems even if the use of synthetic materials and new forms of hoisting gear tends to prolong the usage of today's nets. Certain mending operations, such as minor tear repairs, are always carried out on board before being potentially resumed in the manufacturing and repair workshops.
