The Vaucluse Castle, also known as Pétrarque's Castle or the Castle of the Bishops of Cavaillon, overlooks the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in the Vaucluse department. Today in ruins, it extends on the road to Cavaillon on the rocky outcrop that surrounds the resurgence of the Sorgue. A few hundred meters from its source, it is the first building on the upstream side of the river. An unmarked path with fairly steep and slippery passages allows visitors with good shoes to join it from the bridge.
