African hamerkop on its perch

0
The hamerkop is endemic to southern Africa. Its beak is massive and slightly hooked, like that of the heron. Its wings are large, broad and rounded. The elongated crest surmounting its head is the main element of its identification. It lives next to aquatic environments with trees for perching and nesting, and feeds on insects and molluscs that it finds in shallow waters.
