They are 9,388 to have lost their lives on the beach of Omaha, The bloody. All died during or after the landing of June 6, 1944. At dawn, 6,939 ships landed 132,700 Americans and 20,000 vehicles on the beaches of Normandy known as Utah, Juno, Gold, Sword, Omaha. Many soldiers were buried, sometimes hastily where they died, on the sand. At the end of the war, the cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer was thought out, designed and built to welcome them and pay homage to them.
