The ramparts of the old town of Briançon are dominated by the Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Nicolas collegiate church. This parish church was built down Rue du Temple at the beginning of the 18th century to replace the medieval church, which was mined and razed in 1692. The imposing volume of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Nicolas reflects the Catholic policy of King Louis XIV.
