Notre Dame de Paix, dissymmetry of the bell towers
1
0
The access to the church Notre Dame de Paix on Akamaru, in the archipelago of Gambier, is through a long grassy path, perpendicular to the beach. The dissymmetry of the two steeples added in 1862 aims to recall the architecture of Chartres Cathedral, near the birthplace of Honoré Laval, the great evangelizer of the region. The highest tower houses the bell accessible by a staircase with steps carved into coral.
