Notre Dame de Lourdes chapel in Lifou is located on the promontory of Easo (literally 'the place that smokes') which separates the bays of Santal in the east and Jinek in the west on which it offers a magnificent panorama. It is a building with a simple architecture, painted in white and covered with a red roof, whose porch is topped by an imposing immaculate statue of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1898 to commemorate the arrival on the island of the first Catholic missionaries forty years earlier.
