The name Savon de Marseille is not a label of controlled origin but corresponds to a manufacturing process. It is approved since March 2003 by the DGCCRF depending on the Ministry of Finance and issued from a code validated by AFISE (French Association of Hygiene Industries). Neither the designation - linked to a saponification method - nor the code - which specifies different notions of composition and conformity - oblige the product to be manufactured in Marseille or in the region.
