Formed by an andesite flow, Madame islet is one of the ten Robert islets scattered near the Atlantic coast of Martinique. Located at the far east of Havre du Robert, 1,312 ft (400 m) from Pointe la Rose, it is the only one to have a sandy cove with a white bottom particularly suitable for swimming. Its long wooden pontoon, built in 2009, allows the mooring of more than ten boats and the landing of numerous visitors (250 to 300 per day at peak times). With an area of 7 acres (2.9 ha), the islet culminates at 62 ft (19 m) above sea level and has two small cliffs on the east side. Its name recalls that Madame du Parquet, the wife of the Governor of Martinique Jacques du Parquet (1636-1646 and 1647-1685), enjoyed going there in the 1650s.
