Niedermünster Abbey

Sainte Odile transformed her father's castle into a monastery named Hohenbourg Abbey. Its buildings stand on a mountain, and many believers, especially the sick, found them difficult to access. Sainte Odile hence decided to build a second establishment called Niedermünster, the monastery below. One day as she was going down from the abbey, she met a blind and thirsty beggar. She struck a rock, from which came out healing water that has never ceased flowing since. The site quickly became a prominent place of pilgrimage, especially for people with eye diseases.
