New Caledonian flora : an exceptional endemism and biodiversity
3
0
Despite an area twenty times smaller than that of mainland France, New Caledonia is home to almost as many terrestrial plant species, i.e. nearly 3,261 species of vascular plants, 76% of which are endemic. This endemism rate ranks it third in the world after Hawaii (89%) and New Zealand (82%). The different types of environment of the Blue River Provincial Park on Grande-Terre are a true sanctuary of this exceptional biodiversity.
