Yellow-legged gulls nest on land in rocks, sand, or pebbles. The females lay eggs in early spring, and the chicks fly after 42 to 48 days. Semi-precocial, the immatures take four years to gradually obtain their adult plumage upon reaching sexual maturity. Their first winter coat is entirely stained with brown, while the second one has 20 to 80% gray feathers.
