Nepenthes vieillardii, plants adapted to the ultramafic soils of New-Caledonia
3
0
Endemic to New Caledonia, the insectivorous plants of the genus Nepenthes vieillardii grow in the dry and hard soil of the mining scrub of Grande-Terre, especially in ravines and gullies. The astonishing vegetation of New Caledonia is a legacy of its geological history and of the mineral imbalance of its soils covered for a third with ultramafic rocks deficient in a large number of elements necessary for the growth of plants.
