When - during its transit in the fissures network of the calcareous rock of Makatea - the carbonate-laden water arrives on the ceiling of a cave, it encounters new physicochemical conditions which lead to the precipitation of carbonate and give birth to various concretions. The formation of finer needles is related to the precipitation of aragonite which depends on the temperature and hygrometry conditions.
