Thanks to the significant degradation and decomposition of the leaves and branches of its mangrove trees regularly flooded by the tides, the mangrove is an excellent natural fertilizer. One hectare of mangrove produces fifteen tons of dry organic matter annually, which fertilize the seagrass and coral reefs of the caledonian lagoon.
