Narwhal, a mythical animal also called the unicorn of the seas

The apparent tooth of the narwhal is normally found only in males but female rarely can also be equipped with it. It is, in fact, an extreme growth of the left elongated maxillary tooth. The calves are born without « tusk » but they have two teeth in the upper jaw. At around one year of age, the left tooth breaks through the upper lip and became a « tusk ».
