The state sport in Alaska, mushing is practiced as a sport in North America, northern Europe, the Alps and the Jura. Various sled dog racing associations are concerned with its organization and regulations and are working to obtain Olympic recognition. A sled dog race was featured as a demonstration sport at the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of the US state of New York.
