The Museum of the City of Nouméa retraces the history of the city and of New Caledonia, from its discovery to the Second World War through the nickel boom. It is located on the Place des cocotiers, avenue Jean Jaurès in the heart of the capital. The colonial residence which hosts it was the seat of the first bank of the territory before serving as town hall from 1880 to 1975. It is surrounded by a garden rich in endemic plants.
