The snowy summit of the Mont-Dore massif can be tricky to identify without geolocation. The Massif is composed of four volcanic units – the Sancy massif, the adventitious massif, the Banne d’Ordanche group, the Puy de L’Aiguiller group – with elevations ranging between 4,593 and 6,184 feet (1,400 and 1,885 metres). There are no less than fifteen peaks over 5,577 feet (1,700 metres), five between 5,249 and 5,577 feet (1,600 and 1,700 metres), eleven between 4,921 and 5,249 feet (1,500 and 1,600 metres) and twelve between 4,593 and 4,921 feet (1,400 and 1,500 metres).
