The coastal vegetal combination of mangroves, coconut palms and columnar pines of this photo is characteristic of New Caledonia. Behind the mangrove, which grows in coastal areas subject to tidal influence, the tops of the dunes are often covered with coconut palms, themselves overlaid of 32.8 to 65.6ft (10 to 20m) by columnar pines (Araucaria columnaris).
