The 19th century German geographer Friedrich Ratzel described Corsica as 'a land of mountains in the sea'. With more than a hundred peaks exceeding 6561ft (2000m) and a ubiquitous relief, the island enjoys abundant rainfall allowing its thick vegetation cover. The water reservoirs of its 7 months a year snow-capped peaks feed its dense hydrographic network.
