Chagall recounts some pages of the Bible on two large stained-glass windows in the north apse of Metz Cathedral. On one of them, Moses receives the tables of the Ten Commandments. Next to him, David sings the praises of God on his lyre. Finally, Jeremiah, whom Chagall adored, invites visitors to meditation. One of his prophecies deeply intrigued the artist: The more our time refuses to see the whole face of the world to look at only a very small part of it, the more I become anxious when I consider that face in its eternal rhythm.
