Morphology and geology of the Valensole plateau
0
0
Bounded to the north by the Asse, to the south by the Verdon, to the west by the Durance and to the east by the foothills of the Montdenier massif, the Valensole plateau rises to an average altitude of 1,804 feet (550 meters). It takes on the appearance of a vast north-east/south-west inclined tabular plane sheared by a series of dales converging towards the deeper notch of the Colostre valley which turns into gorges as it approaches the Verdon. Geologically, the Valensole plateau is made up of a thick succession of pebble puddingstone banks with intercalations of sand, sandstone and silt.
