Numerous silver veins were discovered during the 16th century in the galleries over which stands Tellure mining park. Between 1530 and 1560, an estimated 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg) of ores were mined every year. The exploitation of the Saint-Jean Engelsbourg silver vein began in 1549 and ended in 1907. The subsoil of the Val d'Argent, where it extends, contains more than 150 mineral species, including copper, zinc, cobalt, arsenic, and antimony.
